Maras & Moray Half-Day Tour
The Maras, Moray & Salt Mines Half-Day Tour is the perfect experience for travelers seeking a blend of adventure, Andean culture, and breathtaking landscapes. This unforgettable journey takes you through traditional villages, scenic viewpoints, and remarkable archaeological sites that showcase the rich history of the Inca civilization.
Our first stop is Moray, one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Peru. We then continue to the charming colonial village of Maras, a peaceful Andean town known for its traditional architecture, narrow streets, and spectacular views overlooking the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
The tour concludes at the extraordinary Maras Salt Mines, home to more than 3,000 salt evaporation ponds cascading down the mountainside. These ancient salt pools have been harvested by local families for centuries using traditional techniques that date back to pre-Inca times, making them one of Peru’s most unique cultural and natural attractions.

Itinerary
Day 1: Moray Terraces, Maras Salt Mines & Chinchero

Your adventure begins with hotel pickup at the scheduled time from accommodations located in Cusco’s Historic Center. Once the group is assembled, we’ll set off toward the breathtaking Sacred Valley of the Incas to explore three of its most iconic attractions: Moray, the Maras Salt Mines, and Chinchero.
First Stop: Moray Archaeological Site
Our first destination is Moray, one of the most fascinating archaeological sites of the Inca Empire. Famous for its impressive circular terraces, Moray is believed to have served as an ancient agricultural laboratory where the Incas experimented with crops and created different microclimates to improve agricultural production.
Visit duration: Approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
If conditions permit and with your guide’s approval, you’ll also have the opportunity to walk down into the circular terraces for an even closer look at this remarkable engineering achievement.
Second Stop: Maras Salt Mines
Next, we’ll visit the spectacular Maras Salt Mines, home to more than 3,000 salt evaporation ponds cascading down the mountainside. Fed by a natural underground saltwater spring, these ancient salt pools have been harvested continuously since pre-Inca times using traditional methods that are still practiced by local families today.
Visit duration: Approximately 1 hour.
The visit includes a stop at the panoramic viewpoint, where your guide will explain the traditional salt extraction process and the cultural importance of this extraordinary site.
Third Stop: Chinchero
Our final destination is the picturesque Andean village of Chinchero, often referred to as the “Birthplace of the Rainbow.” This charming town is renowned for preserving centuries-old Andean weaving traditions, where local artisans create beautiful textiles using natural dyes and alpaca wool.
Visit duration: Approximately 15–20 minutes.
You’ll also have the opportunity to attend an optional textile weaving demonstration, where local artisans showcase traditional techniques passed down through generations.
Return to Cusco
After completing our tour, we’ll return to the Imperial City of Cusco, arriving at approximately 2:00–2:30 PM. The tour concludes with drop-off near Plaza de Armas, providing convenient access to the city’s historic center.
